WATERSHEDS AND STREAM NETWORKS

Generally, a stream is a term for a body of flowing water, while in hydrology, the term is applied to the water flowing in a natural channel as distinct from a canal. A drainage network is a system of channels and other paths of conveyance for water and sediment moving downslope through a drainage basin.


IRRIGATION SYSTEMS

Irrigation systems consist of man-made structures responsible for supplying water in agricultural areas to increase yield and maintain a stable temperature of cops. They are important in helping in the provision of food for the country's growing population and makes agriculture possible in areas where rainfall is not enough for sustaining crops. In times where rainfall is frequent, farmers are able to regulate the flow of water to avoid flooding.

INLAND WETLANDS

Wetlands are areas of land which are filled with water, either permanently or temporarily. These areas can be natural of artificial, and are home to distinct ecosystems. There are three broad categories of wetlands according to Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. These are the (1) inland wetlands, (2) coastal/marine wetlands, and (3) human-made wetlands.

The PHD team

The UP Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry (UP TCAGP) is tasked to undertake a directed research program funded by the Department of Science and Technology thru its Grant-In-Aid Program (DOST-GIA) monitored by the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD-DOST) entitled “Nationwide Detailed Resources Assessment Using LiDAR (Phil-LiDAR 2)”. One of the five (5) project components is the Development of the Philippine Hydrologic Dataset for Watersheds from LiDAR Surveys (PHD) whose main objective is to develop a national repository of hydrologic datasets for the Philippines, specifically inland bodies of water.
